In the North-Eastern part of the city of Luxembourg, in an area called Bock, there are some of the most beautiful natural fortifications in Europe. Because of it’s strategical location, Count Siegfried of Luxembourg chose this location to build the Castle of Lucilinburhuc in 963. A thousand years later, Louis XIV built underground tunnels called casemates. Nowadays, about 17 km (11 mi) of largely untouched tunnels can be visited from March to October.
