Now, we’re finally getting to the best part of Marseille – The Old Port or Le Vieux Port. It has been the natural harbor of Marseille since antiquity and today is the most popular part of the city. The first testaments of this place dates back from 600 BC, when Greek settlers arrived in this little part of the Mediterranean. Since then the port was slowly built, and then the city extended beyond the old quarter. The place is so beautiful and filled with history, that it influenced many painters and authors. This is where Alexandre Dumas set his novel, „The Count of Monte Cristo”, and even Ian Fleming brought his famous character, James Bond, here for one story.
