Apart from all the squirrels, swans, ducks and many other birds which roam St James’ Park, there is also a small colony of pelicans. The first ones were a gift from a Russian ambassador in 1664 and since then more than 40 birds delight visitors every day. Usually they spend their time at the fitly named Pelican Rock right in the middle of the lake. But that day they seemed to be in the mood for a little socializing so they got very close to the alley. They’re face, however, didn’t suggest that they were very happy to see us.
