After Miramare Castle is time to see the actual Trieste. This is unlike any other Italian city I’ve seen before. It’s is a melting pot of Austrian, Slovenian, Croatian and Italian culture with African influences. Everywhere you look you find a new facet of the city from the colorful port to the main square, the Saint Giusto Castle perched over the city, the eclectic churches and Roman archaeological sites spread throughout the city. Unfortunately because I’ve spent a lot more time at the Miramare than I had originally planed, I didn’t have a lot of time left to explore Trieste so I decided to stay near the beautiful port. More on that later.
